Saxony: Saxon Library Prize 2022 goes to Schkeuditz

Dresden (dpa/sn) - The Schkeuditz public library (Northern Saxony district) will receive the Saxon Library Prize 2022, which is endowed with 10,000 euros. It will be awarded on November 1, as Minister of Culture Barbara Klepsch (CDU) announced on Wednesday in Dresden. This "recognises the outstanding commitment, innovative ideas, perseverance and excellent results of the team". Diverse cooperation, which is reflected in lively event activities, made the facility "a place of togetherness".

Among other things, the jury praised the further development of the media stock designed by the team, which enables an accentuated presentation of the offer for different target groups. With ideas such as an IT student team or a project in which young moped mechanics restore an old machine, the library is a place of participation and togetherness.

According to the ministry, seven libraries with services that can be considered exemplary and above-average applied for the award. "Libraries are important cultural, knowledge and educational institutions both in urban centers and in rural areas," said Aline Fiedler, Chairwoman of the Library Association of Saxony, which has been presenting the award together with the Ministry of Culture since 2013.
