Saxony: Saxony examines the condition of the forest soils

Dresden (dpa / sn) - Saxony will examine the condition of the forest soils over the next three years. Forest Minister Wolfram Günther (Greens) gave the go-ahead for the third soil condition survey in Dresden on Wednesday, as the ministry announced. Samples will be taken at 280 points up to and including 2024.

"In the course of the investigation, in addition to the current survey of the condition of the forest, we are gaining important insights into the material cycles of the forest ecosystems, in particular the soil carbon balance in the climate crisis," said Günther according to the announcement. Forests and with them the soil are important carbon stores and thus a crucial part of climate protection.

The study is part of a pan-European program to monitor the impact of air pollution on forest health. The first soil condition surveys took place in 1992 and 2006.
