Berlin/Dresden (dpa/sn) - For the first time since the beginning of the corona pandemic, Saxony is represented on the floor of the International Tourism Exchange (ITB) in Berlin. "It is finally possible again to present Saxony's multifaceted cultural and tourism offerings live to the global trade audience and to speak directly to German and foreign tour operators about including Saxon travel offers in their programmes," said Saxony's Minister of Education, Barbara Klepsch, in Berlin on Tuesday.
Up to and including Thursday, the Tourismus Marketing Gesellschaft Sachsen (TMGS) will be promoting Saxony in the Berlin exhibition hall at the stand of the German National Tourist Board (DZT). With around 7 million guest arrivals and almost 18 million overnight stays last year, the new start was a success, according to the company. The Saxon tourism industry started the year 2023 with optimism.
"Despite the generally tense economic situation, people want to travel again," said TMGS Managing Director Veronika Hiebl. With art and culture on city trips in combination with active relaxation in nature, Saxony provides good arguments for holidays in Germany. TMGS also wants to remain clearly visible abroad in order to further stimulate the interest in travel, which has also increased again after the Corona pandemic.
The first meeting of the travel industry after the pandemic was opened by Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) on Monday. In contrast to the pre-Corona years, the ITB (March 7th to 9th) is now only open to trade visitors. Guest country this year is Georgia.
