Saxony: Saxony is testing family school centers

Dresden (dpa / sn) - An idea from North Rhine-Westphalia for better contact points for families is catching on in Saxony. So-called family school centers are to be set up in Dresden, Leipzig and Chemnitz at the beginning of the next school year. The city of Dresden announced that a corresponding declaration of intent was signed on Monday.

These are contact points for parents where they can get advice on health issues, language support or cultural offerings or simply visit a parents' café. A total of 13 primary and special schools in the three cities are to be set up as family school centers in a pilot project.

In addition to two foundations, the project is supported by the Saxon Ministry of Education. In North Rhine-Westphalia, more than 150 primary schools have now become such contact points.
