Saxony: Saxony's health economy recovered in 2021

Dresden (dpa / sn) - The Saxon healthcare industry recovered last year. The gross value added rose by a good 600 million euros to more than 13 billion euros compared to 2020, as reported by the State Statistical Office on Wednesday. Adjusted for price influences, this resulted in an increase of 3.5 percent. In Saxony, the healthcare industry was therefore also somewhat more crisis-proof than the economy as a whole, which recorded an increase in gross value added of 2.6 percent.

This also applies to the development of the number of employees: while these declined slightly by 0.1 percent in the economy as a whole, the number of people employed in the healthcare industry rose by 2.5 percent to around 285,000.
