Saxony: Saxophonist Philipp conducts the Saxony Youth Jazz Orchestra

Dresden (dpa / sn) - With the saxophonist Theresia Philipp, a woman is leading the youth jazz orchestra (JJO) Sachsen for the first time in eight years. The musician was once a member of the JJO herself and is therefore returning to her former training center in a responsible position. The Saxon Music Council announced on Monday that Philipp will be performing with the young musicians in Saxony from August 25th to 28th. Concerts are planned in the courtyard of Colditz, in the Leipzig culture factory, the Dresden jazz club Tonne and in the music pavilion in Bad Elster.

The youth jazz orchestra of Saxony is a big band and includes up to 20 musicians between the ages of 18 and 26. The ensemble was founded in 1993 and has performed abroad - for example in Canada, India and Israel. The artistic direction changes regularly, as do the members of the big band. The formation has already worked with well-known jazz musicians such as Milan Svoboda, Carla Bley and Joe Sullivan.
