Saxony: Slight decrease in corona infections in Saxony

Leipzig (dpa/sn) - The number of corona infections registered in Saxony continues to fall. Compared to the previous week, the number of reported new infections per 100,000 inhabitants fell from 216.4 to 213.9 within seven days, according to the overview of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) on Thursday. This puts the Free State slightly below the national trend. According to the RKI, the incidence for all of Germany was 223.1. Across Saxony, most infections were registered in the district of Chemnitz: Here the incidence was 254.5.

The nationwide numbers are also falling. In the week before, the nationwide incidence was 237.3. However, experts have been assuming for some time that the value does not fully reflect the infection situation, because not all infected people have a PCR test done - only the positive ones count in the statistics. According to the RKI, more than 1.72 million infections have been registered in Saxony since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020 - with around four million inhabitants. 15,937 people have died from or with a Sars-CoV-2 infection.
