Saxony: Social report: According to Köpping, the situation has improved in many ways

Dresden (dpa / sn) - According to Social Affairs Minister Petra Köpping (SPD), the social situation in Saxony has improved in many areas in recent years. The second social report from 2005 to 2019 shows that the social policy measures and the money invested are well invested, she said on Tuesday in Dresden at the presentation of the 800-page inventory. Families benefit from good childcare options, although the population outside of the big cities continues to decline slightly. But there can be no talk of "detached regions". There is none where only difficult conditions exist or where everything only develops positively.

According to Köpping, however, things are not always going in the right direction or in sufficiently large steps. In crises, the substance could be stabilized, jobs preserved and people supported. The decline in population has weakened, more people have moved in than out. "However, the regional differences are still large." Dresden and Leipzig, for example, increased their population, while the Görlitz area, the Erzgebirge district and the Vogtland district continued to lose significantly.

Because of the demographic development and the shortage of skilled workers, care remains a major challenge. According to Köpping, the number of people in need of care doubled to around 251,000, also because the group of those entitled to benefits increased with the change in the definition of the need for care in 2017. A further increase to around 282,500 is expected by 2035. In order to maintain the current level of care, 8,810 additional full inpatient care places would have to be created by then. Compared to 2017, by 2030 there will be an additional need of 12,800 full-time nursing staff in outpatient and inpatient care. Hope gives Köpping a significantly increased number of graduates in geriatric care training.

The childcare situation has improved and with it the compatibility of family and career. The rate among children aged between one and three rose from 48 percent in 2006 to 76 percent in 2020 and was thus above the German average (51 percent). The average monthly net income for employed persons increased from 915 euros to 1479 euros, also because more couples are employed. In 2018, however, at least half of the full-time employees were below the current minimum wage of 12 euros.

Income and assets have risen, but Saxony is still at the bottom of the national comparison.
