Saxony: State Directorate examines four objections to OB election

Chemnitz/Dresden (dpa/sn) - The State Directorate of Saxony (LDS) is examining four objections to the mayoral election in Dresden. The voters stated that they had not received the postal voting documents in time for the second ballot on July 10, said the deputy LDS spokesman Jürgen Herrmann on Monday in Chemnitz. The "Dresdner Latest News" had previously reported.

The previous incumbent Dirk Hilbert, who ran for a voter alliance, was re-elected in the second ballot. He received 45.3 percent of the votes. His fiercest competitor, the Greens politician Eva Jähnigen, who is supported by the SPD and the left, got 38.3 percent. In the second ballot, almost half of the voters (49.2 percent) cast their votes by letter.

The LDS spokesman did not say how long the test would take. There is no legal deadline for examining the election challenges. For Hilbert there are initially no consequences because of the appeal. "He can continue to exercise his office until the final conclusion of these proceedings," stressed Hermann.
