Saxony: State funds project for the subsequent use of lignite opencast mines

Leipzig (dpa / sn) - The planning for concepts for the subsequent use of opencast lignite mines in Saxony should be made easier and faster. The state government is supporting a corresponding research project with 1.5 million euros, as the Ministry of Science announced on Thursday. The University of Leipzig, the University of Applied Sciences for Technology, Economics and Culture and the Institute for Applied Computer Science are pooling their skills in the field of digitization in the trade fair city.

The goal is a data platform in which the archive data is digitized, networked and made more easily accessible. This should give experts faster access to all required and relevant data that must be taken into account, for example, for the construction of a new cycle path or the renaturation of a former opencast mining area. Until now, all relevant data from files and documentation from municipalities or mining companies had to be collected at great expense.
