Saxony: suspect released after the death of a man in Pirna

Pirna/Dresden (dpa/sn) - After the death of a 20-year-old in Pirna (Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district), the 15-year-old suspect was released on Monday. Although there is still a suspicion of physical injury resulting in death against the youth arrested on Sunday night, the Dresden public prosecutor's office said on Monday morning that a situation in self-defense cannot be ruled out based on the current status of the investigation.

The 15-year-old is said to have stabbed the man in the stomach on Saturday evening on Dohnaischer Platz. Emergency services found the man after an emergency call and resuscitated him. However, he succumbed to his severe injuries a short time later.

The investigations would be continued comprehensively, said senior public prosecutor Lorenz Haase of the German Press Agency. The police and public prosecutor's office announced on Sunday that a crime scene team from the State Criminal Police Office had secured evidence at the crime scene. In addition, investigators had therefore carried out initial surveys of residents.
