Dresden (dpa/sn) - The service court for judges in Saxony wants to negotiate orally in September about the transfer of the judge and former AfD member of the Bundestag Jens Maier to early retirement. The date was set for September 22, a court spokeswoman said on Friday evening. The legal magazine Legal Tribune Online (LTO.de) had previously reported.

The Leipzig service court for judges, which deals with questions of service law, temporarily prohibited Maier from conducting official business in March. The service court thus granted an urgent application from the Saxon Ministry of Justice. The decision is limited in time until a decision is made on a second ongoing application - namely to retire Maier. A judge "must behave not only inside but also outside of his office, including in political activities, in such a way that trust in his integrity and independence is not endangered," the statement said.

Maier is classified as a right-wing extremist by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution in Saxony. The former AfD member of the Bundestag had lost his mandate in the 2021 election and then wanted to return to the judiciary.
