Saxony: The number of clubs in Saxony is increasing

Berlin (dpa/sn) - In Saxony, the number of clubs has been growing since 2012. Between 2012 and 2022, the number increased by 6.3 percent, according to a study by the Donors' Association for German Science. According to the information, there were 30,926 clubs in the Free State in 2022. Three years earlier there were around 130 fewer.

According to the study, the number of clubs also increased nationwide: from 2016 to 2022, the number of clubs grew by two percent. Berlin recorded the strongest increase in this period with growth of 22.3 percent.

According to the Stifterverband, the role of associations is also changing. They therefore want to provide impetus for social and political change more often and are less oriented towards the interests of their members.

The investigation was carried out by Civil Society in Numbers (Ziviz), a subsidiary of the Stifterverband, and read out the register of associations for this purpose.
