Saxony: The number of Ukrainian students in Saxony has fallen slightly

Dresden (dpa/sn) - Almost three weeks after the start of the school year, fewer girls and boys from Ukraine are being taught in Saxony. According to the Ministry of Education in Dresden on Monday, 9,669 children and young people from the state are currently learning at general and vocational schools. At the beginning of September there were 252 more. Some would go back to their home country or to other federal states, said a ministry spokesman.

There are now 443 teachers working in this area, as well as 116 so-called school assistants, most of whom are Ukrainians themselves. They are initially employed until the end of the school year for German as a second language, to ensure gradual integration into regular classes or classes in their native language. The required language level for applicants has been lowered from C1 to B2, although it does not have to be achieved when you are hired. "The knowledge of German can also be acquired afterwards."
