Saxony: Two murder trials begin at the Dresden district court

Dresden (dpa/sn) - Two murder cases will deal with the jury chamber of the Dresden Regional Court from next week. The trial against a 22-year-old who is said to have killed an acquaintance in Dresden in the summer of 2021 begins on Tuesday, and the next day it is about the violent death of an 84-year-old in February, as the district court announced on Thursday. The procedures are scheduled to run until mid-December.

The 22-year-old has to answer for murder and attempted manslaughter. In a dispute on June 27, 2021, the Afghan is said to have rammed a knife into the neck of a compatriot of the same age in his apartment in the Gorbitz district, thereby severing an artery. According to prosecutors, he came back three hours later and saw that he was still alive and strangled him with a belt. The two refugees met in Germany. The accused has provided information but has not confessed, said a court spokesman.

A 50-year-old from Dresden is also accused of murder. He is said to have killed his mother in her sleep on February 11 this year and cut her with a cutter knife. The man is considered mentally ill and has reduced criminal responsibility. He said he acted out of compassion because he could no longer see his mother's suffering, a court spokesman said. The defendant also has depression.
