Saxony: Unemployment increased in Saxony

Chemnitz (dpa/sn) - The number of unemployed in Saxony rose in August for the third month in a row. Most recently, almost 123,500 people were registered as unemployed. That was about 4,900 more than in July and about 1,700 more than a year ago, said the regional directorate of the Federal Employment Agency on Wednesday. The unemployment rate climbed from 5.6 to 5.9 percent.

The increase was justified by the fact that many young people initially register as unemployed after leaving school or training. At the same time, companies often waited until after the summer holidays to hire new staff. Other war refugees from Ukraine had also registered as unemployed in the job centers. Overall, companies are showing increasing reluctance to fill and report vacancies.
