Saxony: Unemployment is rising: Thousands of Ukrainians are looking for work

Chemnitz (dpa/sn) - Unemployment in Saxony rose in July as expected. A total of almost 118,500 people were registered as unemployed, the regional directorate of the Federal Employment Agency announced on Friday in Chemnitz. That was a good 2,600 more than in May. The unemployment rate increased from 5.5 to 5.6 percent.

The main reason for the increase is that many refugees from Ukraine have registered with the job centers. A good 16,500 of them are now registered as looking for work and almost 9,500 as unemployed. At the same time, according to the regional directorate, there are first signs of uncertainty. Companies submitted fewer vacancies than usual in July, although the number of vacancies remains high.
