Saxony: Vaccination obligation: District Office does not impose any entry bans

Bautzen (dpa/sn) - The Bautzen district office has so far waived entry bans in connection with the enforcement of compulsory vaccination for health and care staff. As the authority announced on Tuesday, employers had reported around 3,900 employees to the health authorities since March of this year who had submitted no or only dubious evidence or indicated a medical contraindication. With a view to the supply situation and after hearing the employers, no bans on entering the facilities were imposed.

When it came to compulsory vaccination, the Saxon government had always asserted that the security of supply of the health care facilities had priority. In addition to Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and Thuringia, Saxony had recently spoken out in favor of ending facility-related compulsory vaccination. In a letter to Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach (SPD), the responsible ministries advocated not extending the compulsory vaccination, which expires at the end of the year.

Saxony's Health Minister Petra Köpping (SPD) argued that the omicron variant leads to severe courses less often than Delta did before. An extension of the vaccination requirement beyond 2022 is simply not justifiable.
