Saxony: Verdi wants to exclude AfD members

Weimar (dpa / sn) - Members of the Verdi services union are not allowed to belong to the AfD in Thuringia at the same time. That was decided on Saturday at the district conference in Weimar, said managing director Corinna Hersel on request. The State Office for the Protection of the Constitution classifies the AfD state association as secured extremist. Hersel emphasized that members who became aware of their affiliation with the AfD would be excluded from the union.

According to the information, the chairman Denny Möller was also confirmed in office at the conference in Weimar. At the same time, the union took a look at the upcoming collective bargaining rounds. It is about the employees of the public service for federal and local governments as well as the Deutsche Post, said Hersel. In a leading motion, the trade unionists spoke out in favor of "protection from Sunday and public holiday work for purely economic reasons", the introduction of a wealth tax and more appreciation and wages for nursing staff in line with collective bargaining agreements.

According to Verdi, it has around 34,000 members in Thuringia.
