Saxony: volunteers honored in the state parliament: Köpping recognizes commitment

Dresden (dpa/sn) - At a reception in the state parliament in Dresden on Saturday, 47 women and men were honored for their voluntary work. "We need people who stand up for others and do more than their duty, because without them our society would be a lot poorer," said Social Affairs Minister Petra Köpping (SPD) in recognition of her work. They assume responsibility for the community and are part of civic engagement in the Free State. "It's important for social cohesion."

The honorees from all regions of the country work in their free time in refugee aid, in church communities, at food banks, give private tuition and look after students, are sponsors for families, trainers and trainers in sports clubs, work in disaster control, are committed to the environment, in the home care or in the cultural sector.

According to the ministry, 13 other volunteers who were unable to attend the event will receive their certificates by post. For the first time, the award was given in five categories: accompanying, educating, moving, supervising, preserving.
