Saxony: Vonovia: Invest more than 100 million euros in Dresden

Dresden (dpa/sn) - The housing company Vonovia wants to invest more than 100 million euros in Dresden this year. The majority of this should flow into renovations, the company announced on Tuesday in Dresden. There should be improvements in around 1,000 apartments, such as barrier-free access through elevators. Vonovia's houses would be "carefully renovated with a sense of proportion" and new apartments would also be built: "For us, the focus is on a needs-based and climate-friendly development of the housing offer at fair rents," emphasized regional manager Sebastian Krüger.

Krüger recalled an agreement with the city of Dresden on cooperation in the development of residential locations. Part of the agreement is also the examination of the acquisition of up to 3000 Vonovia apartments by the municipal housing association Wohnen in Dresden. Vonovia is currently examining which housing stocks would be suitable. "We make sure that there are no disadvantages for tenants from a change of ownership," explained Krüger.

According to Vonovia, it owns 38,500 apartments in Dresden and thus has a market share of around 13 percent. 90,000 people and thus more than a fifth of all Dresdeners are Vonovia tenants, it said. Their average rent is 6.45 euros per square meter.
