Saxony: Winter service on Saxony's motorways in the "normal range"

During snowfall and ice in the past few weeks, winter services have been in demand again and again, especially on the motorways.

Dresden (dpa / sn) - Despite the recent icy temperatures, winter service on Saxony's motorways has so far been similar to previous years. In the fight against ice accidents, the winter services of the highway maintenance departments have so far scattered around 9,150 tons of salt and 1,240 tons of brine, said a spokesman for the federal highway GmbH on request. This is in the normal range and roughly at the level of previous years.

Since November, almost 240 employees of the motorway maintenance department have been working in shifts to carry out the winter service on the almost 500 kilometers of motorway - with the route actually being twice as long due to the two-way lanes. With the help of ground probes, the amount of salt to be used is decided. According to the Autobahnmeisterei, the temperature on the road - and not the air temperature - is decisive.

Other work in the field of operational service could usually be done in parallel, the spokesman said. The remaining tasks include caring for trees in winter, cleaning rest areas, repairing damage to the roadway, blocking activities and installing traffic signs.
