Shootout in Texas leaves suspect dead and 2 deputies injured.

Authorities said Tuesday that two Texas sheriff deputies were wounded in a gunfight with a suspect.

Ed Gonzalez, Harris County Sheriff, said that the incident occurred Tuesday night in Katy (Texas), about 30 miles west from Houston. Gonzalez stated via Twitter that Gonzalez and Gonzalez were both hospitalized for what seemed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Gonzalez said that deputies arrived on the scene following reports of shots being fired. Gonzalez stated that the suspect opened fire on the deputies when they arrived. The deputies then returned fire. The suspect was shot at the deputies and declared dead on the spot.

At a Tuesday night news conference, Chief Deputy Edison Toquica stated that the original call for service was made by an occupant at 8 p.m. It was about a discharge of firearms in the residence.

Toquica stated that one of the deputy was hit in the right leg. The other deputy was also struck in the leg, and also grazed in both the left and right ear.

Toquica stated, "We are blessed that both of them remain in stable condition."

Although he did not identify the deputies, he said that they were 27-years old and 28-years old. One had been with the force for one and two years respectively.

"Law enforcement is an integral part of the community. Your children go to school with our kids. We attend the same church and we shop at the exact same grocery store. Toquica stated that this is an opportunity to work together to curb the violence that we see.

Toquica stated that the suspect was a paranoid schizophrenia. This has not been confirmed 100%. All of this information is not confirmed, but it is what we have been advised at this point.

Toquica stated that the unidentified suspect was approximately 43 years old and was currently out on bond for 2020 aggravated assault on a family member. However, it wasn't clear why police were called to the house on Tuesday.

He said that the shooting remains under investigation.
