Southport v Blackpool: Fighting supporters could be banned

Police say that fans involved in fighting during a Southport-Blackpool football match could be barred from future matches.

The referee stopped Saturday's pre-season friendly in order to let players go during the disturbance at Southport's Pure Stadium.

According to Merseyside Police, there was no more disorder after officers arrived. Fans were "removed in an orderly fashion".

According to officers, there were no reports of injuries.

Matthew Moscrop, Ch Insp Matthew Moscrop stated: "Our message is to the small minority fans intent on disrupting any match. Such behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated."

He stated that they were working with Southport FC in identifying offenders and added that they were looking at banning orders for those involved.

Police asked anyone with any information to contact them.
