Spain A DANA causes serious flooding in Murcia and the blocking of roads in Alicante

The Aemet has placed an orange warning for rains and storms in Andalusia, the Region of Murcia and the Valencian Community, and in yellow for Aragon, Castilla-La Mancha and Catalonia, due to the arrival of a DANA.

The Emergency Coordination Center of the Region of Murcia has attended to 117 incidents tonight related to heavy rains in Mazarrón and Cartagena. Above all, rescues of trapped vehicles and water drainage in homes. According to this body, there have been no victims. Both towns have been on red alert for rain since 4 in the morning with the forecast of "extreme risk of accumulated precipitation of up to 61 mm in one hour."

In the Valencian Community, the heavy rains recorded since this morning, especially heavy in Alicante, have left roads blocked and cars trapped and have caused debris to fall. Specifically, according to the Provincial Consortium of Alicante Firefighters, the rains have forced the N-325 to be cut off due to flooding, two kilometers from Aspe. The same security body has indicated that two or three cars have been stranded, which has caused a retention.

Likewise, the Alicante firefighters have carried out seven interventions in San Vicente, Elda and Elche in one hour, from 8 to 9 a.m., related to draining water and rubble falling onto public roads from building facades.

The Ministry of Education of the Region of Murcia has suspended school activity in the municipalities of the region where 112 has activated the orange alert for rain. Late yesterday afternoon, the municipalities in which classes had been suspended are Águilas, Puerto Lumbreras, Lorca, Mazarrón, Cartagena, Fuente Álamo, Torre Pacheco, Los Alcázares, San Javier, San Pedro del Pinatar, La Unión Aledo, Totana and Alhama de Murcia.

With this preventive measure, in anticipation of heavy rains, it is intended to prevent displacement, ensuring the safety of vulnerable people and reducing their mobility.

On the other hand, in those centers where the school activity is maintained, they must provide for the attention of the students in the event of possible absences of teachers who cannot travel to the educational center. Likewise, the lack of teachers who prove the impossibility of attending their service center due to roadblocks that prevent their movement to it will be considered justified.

In the Valencian Community, there are at least 20 municipalities that have also decided to cancel classes this Tuesday. At first, the municipalities of Elche, Torrevieja and Orihuela, which add up to more than 400,000 residents, had announced the suspension of school activity, but the Ministry of Education has reported that, at 10:00 p.m. on Monday, the towns that have decided not to open the schools this Tuesday, they already rise to 21 in the regions of Vega Baja and Baix Vinalopó.
