Spain Jupol announces integration with police union ASP

The Jupol union, the majority in the Police Council, and the ASP union announced yesterday, through their general secretaries, Aarón Rivero and Luis Baraja respectively, the start of the integration of both organizations.

"JUPOL begins a new stage with ASP focused on union unity, alongside an organization as demanding as ours in the fight against the Administration for the labor rights of police officers, and focused on the joint objective of equalizing wages and a dignified retirement," Rivero said.

For his part, the general secretary of ASP pointed out that "a project is starting today that will set in motion a joint agenda of practical actions that increase pressure on the government and political groups. The second line is to work side by side to develop alternatives, projects, ideas, that relaunch police unionism: with rigor, with seriousness and work".

Rivero valued the importance of this agreement and recalled that Jupol and ASP, he said, "were the only unions that were not sold in their day with the signing of the false salary equalization agreement."

For this reason, he added, "we will walk this path together. Union unity makes us stronger, gives us more power and more voice within our police representative body."

For his part, Luis Baraja clarified that "in today's agreement there is a double condition: concur in an electoral coalition to strengthen police unionism and real representation; and implement a joint agenda of practical actions that increase pressure on the Government and political formations. The second line is to work side by side to develop alternatives, projects, ideas, that relaunch police unionism: with rigor, with seriousness and work".

The general secretary added that both unions "work as a team to break the barriers of the police ghetto in which this Administration and the Minister of the Interior Fernando Grande-Marlaska, the least valued minister of this Government, have tried to corner us. By attending meetings together upcoming elections to the Police Council, a clean and clear horizon can be seen before us on what the new police model for the 21st century should be".

To conclude, the general secretaries of JUPOL and ASP announced that the integration of both unions will have as its first milestone the coalition of both organizations for the next elections to the Police Council, which will be held on June 28.

The general secretary of ASP assured that "with ASP, with Jupol we form an alternative that intends to promote a definitive leap in police unionism. We are going to demonstrate that the path of unity is the one proposed by JUPOL and ASP".

For his part, Aarón Rivero concluded by assuring that "our strategy and our demands are not going to change, JUPOL will continue to be Jupol, now in the company of another union force, ASP" and issued a notice to the Ministry of the Interior, to certain political groups, to certain "loose verses" that want to "discredit us". "No matter how much dirty play they do, they are not going to change us. We do not sell ourselves, we do not give up, we do not give up... We are prepared to respond forcefully."
