Spain Stabilize the fire that has burned 600 hectares between Catalonia and Aragon

The Generalitat Fire Department has stabilized this Sunday at 07:50 a.m. the forest fire that has been burning since Saturday afternoon between La Granja d'Escarp and Maials (Lleida) and Mequinenza (Zaragoza), and which has burned 600 hectares.

Of the 600 hectares affected, around 250 correspond to Catalonia, specifically to the municipalities of La Granja d'Escarp and Seròs (Lleida), according to provisional data from Rural Agents, reports the Fire Department in a statement.

At this time, the troops who have been working throughout the night are being relieved, with some 40 crews, and those who join will remain in the area until the fire is completely controlled.

It is also expected that two helicopters will be incorporated to support the extinction tasks, since the intense wind that blew on Saturday and that made the tasks of the air units difficult has already eased.

The device in Catalonia is also staffed by members of Forest Defense Associations (Adf), Rural Agents, the Mossos d'Esquadra and the Medical Emergency System (Sem).

During the night, the troops have been able to close the perimeter of the fire with water lines and have worked intensively on the head and left flank.

Civil Protection keeps the special emergency plan for forest fires in Catalonia, Infocat, on pre-alert this Sunday, due to high and very high fire danger, especially in regions of the southern half, the center and in L'Empordà (Girona).

The special wind emergency plan, the Ventcant, is also on alert given the forecast of strong gusts, especially in the Pyrenees Oriental and L'Empordà regions.
