Special honor: Daniel Craig slips back into James Bond role

For years, Daniel Craig embodied the legendary secret agent 007. After his retirement as James Bond, fiction becomes reality for the Hollywood star - at least in part. At Windsor Castle, Craig receives a royal order - which his alter ego also wears.

Special honor for Hollywood star Daniel Craig: The former James Bond actor was awarded the Order of Saint Michael and Saint George. Agent 007, who he portrayed, also received this honor in the novels of British author Ian Fleming.

The 54-year-old actor received the award for Outstanding Contribution in Film and Theater by Princess Anne at Windsor Castle. Craig may now call himself Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG). A photo of Craig accepting the award was posted on the royal family's official social media accounts. Anne, sister of King Charles III, was wearing a naval uniform as she placed the order on a ribbon around the actor's neck.

The royals insisted on alluding to the Bond films in the commentary. "We were expecting you ..." it says there - a well-known sentence from the agent strips in which, among other things, villain Blofeld says this sentence to the famous secret agent.

Daniel Craig played James Bond from 2006 before quitting the role in 2021 with the film No Time to Die. Ahead of the release of his final Bond film, the British actor was made an honorary commander by the Royal Navy - another rank shared with the character 007.

Craig will soon be seen in the crime comedy "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery" on the Netflix streaming service. Craig reprises his role as detective Benoit Blanc in the film, which also has a short release and is a sequel to the blockbuster Knives Out. A third part of the "Knives Out" film series is already being planned.

Film director and producer Paul Greengrass was also honored. The 67-year-old has directed several Hollywood blockbusters - including three films from the "Bourne" series.
