Stan Wild: Ex-Olympic gymnast abuse claim ends

Police said that an investigation into allegations of child abuse against a former Olympic gymnast ended without any charges being filed.

North Yorkshire Police questioned Stan Wild, 78, over allegations of abuse that occurred in the 1970s or 2000s.

According to the force, a file was sent to the Crown Prosecution Service May. They decided not further action.

The allegations were denied by Mr Wild, who participated in the 1968 and 1972 Olympics.

The force stated in a statement that the evidence handed to prosecutors was related to four child abuse complaints not recent.

It stated: "Four women came forward and the police in the past year after national media coverage of [Mr Wild]].

"This investigation was conducted by three unrelated women who were accused of committing offences in the 1970s, 2000s.

"Following careful review of these evidence, the Crown Prosecution Service made the decision to 'No Further Action'.

"All parties have been updated, and the complainants continue to receive specialist support."

British Gymnastics suspended Mr Wild in 2021 for carrying the Olympic torch through York and establishing a club of gymnastics in the city. This was after complaints about his behavior surfaced.
