"Start of downward momentum" - The current corona numbers explained for you

121,780 new corona cases were reported to the RKI for yesterday. Compared to the previous week, this is a minus of about 14 percent.

The 7-day average of new cases falls to about 86,000 cases - the lowest since June 29.

For the first time since mid-June, the infection process is again in a downward dynamic.

The rates of change in the new corona cases on a 7-day average have been in the red for a few days – the value is currently around minus twelve percent.

But the number of active cases has also fallen compared to the previous week – by around 0.5 percent. Both values are now in the red for the first time since June 13th.

Officially, just over 1.8 million people are currently actively infected with the corona virus.

That is significantly more than last summer, but only a fraction of the peak value of the spring wave. In March, more than 4.5 million were infected with the virus at the same time.

However, the number of unreported cases is likely to be high. After all, the economy is currently complaining about a massive shortage of staff due to Corona.

The nationwide 7-day incidence drops significantly from the previous day, from 679 to 652. Saarland was the last federal state to fall below the incidence threshold of 1000.

In addition to Berlin, Hamburg and Thuringia, Saxony-Anhalt has also recently fallen below the 500 mark.

Only in two of the 16 federal states does the incidence increase compared to the previous day: in Bremen (plus 43) and Berlin (plus 3).

181 new corona deaths were reported to the RKI for yesterday. This is an increase of 33 percent compared to the previous week.

In the current week, the deaths add up to 368. This is more than half of the total value of the previous week.
