Stinkefinger for AfD: Investigations against Udo Lindenberg stopped

When Udo Lindenberg was made an honorary citizen of Hamburg, AfD politician Alexander Wolf railed against the musician's award. The 76-year-old panic rocker comments on this with gestures and is reported by Wolf. But there will be no procedure now.

The public prosecutor's office in Hamburg has closed an investigation against panic rocker Udo Lindenberg for insult due to a lack of public interest. As the public prosecutor announced, the person placing the advertisement, the AfD citizenship deputy Alexander Wolf, was referred to the private prosecution. Wolf had reported Lindenberg because he had shown him the middle finger when he was named an honorary citizen of Hamburg in September.

The offense of insult is a private crime, said the spokeswoman for the public prosecutor's office, Liddy Oechtering. "In the case of private prosecution, the public prosecutor's office only files a complaint if the public interest in it is affirmed. That did not happen in the present case." If the public prosecutor's office discontinues preliminary proceedings with reference to private prosecution, this decision is in principle not contestable.

Wolf was outraged by the decision and announced a complaint. "Lindenberg's stinky finger shouldn't set a precedent," he said, accusing the public prosecutor's office of "playing down and trivializing the criminal offense of insult with their absurd justification." If she sticks to her decision, "then in the future a police officer or a citizen can never again be insulted with the middle finger."

After the incident in the citizenship, which could be seen on video recordings, Wolf initially demanded an apology from Lindenberg. Since this failed to materialize, he filed a criminal complaint.
