Storm: At least three dead in flooding in Kentucky

At least three people have died in the US state of Kentucky after heavy rains. One of the victims was an 81-year-old woman, Gov. Andy Beshear said, adding that the death toll is rising. "I expect double digit deaths from this flooding. It's something we rarely see."

The rain will continue in parts of the affected counties in the east of the state, it is an ongoing natural disaster.

Earlier, Democrat Beshear declared a state of emergency and spoke of one of the "worst and most devastating flood events in Kentucky history." In addition to the dead, hundreds of destroyed houses would be expected. Pictures showed flooded streets and washed away cars. All possible rescue workers had been activated. Three state parks would be opened to people whose homes were no longer habitable. Tens of thousands are without electricity.
