Storm disaster: floods in Kentucky: 35 dead and hundreds missing

After the devastating floods in the US state of Kentucky, hundreds of people are missing in the disaster area.

"There are hundreds missing, at least," Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said after visiting the disaster area the previous day. The death toll rose to 35, according to Beshears. "More bad news," the governor wrote on Twitter. "We now have 35 victims to mourn."

After heavy rains, there were flash floods and landslides in Kentucky and in the eastern neighboring states of Virginia and West Virginia in the middle of last week. In many places, people were surprised by the water in their homes on Thursday night.
