Texas dog helped fight off knife-wielding home intruder, family says

'The story plays out very differently if Marley is not there,' family says

A puppy in Texas has been hailed with her family as a hero after allegedly helping fight off a home intruder on Friday.

The Newsom family stated that Marley, their eight-year-old dog, little 53-year-old Thong Pham, who authorities said had a knife whilst at the home.

"She's our hero. If it had not been for her, that guy could have gone into their rooms or some thing," that the Newsoms said, according to KDFM.

"Yeah, I mean, the story plays out quite differently if Marley's not there."

Pham reportedly entered through the back door after the household forgot to lock it. The Newsom's children, six-year-old Finley and four-year-old Sadie, were also at the house when the incident happened.

"It was pitch black, so we couldn't see anything, only could hear Marley," explained Amber Newsom. "And after he flipped the hall light on, we understood that the guy was holed up at the corner hoping to conceal."

According to daddy Taylor, Pham slashed Marley using the knife and stabbed Taylor Newsom in the arm.

Pham finally fled the scene, and authorities said that he had been discovered hiding alongside a creek. He is charged with animal cruelty and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
