The Netflix series "Stranger Things" revives the 80s. With "Running Up That Hill" the show has already revived a song, the season finale now breathes new life into a rock classic.
After Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill", "Stranger Things" catapults another 1980s song into the charts. Metallica's 1986 hit "Master of Puppets" has enjoyed a renewed hit on the UK and US charts more than 35 years later after being played in the season four finale of the Netflix series. Character Eddie Munson (played by Joseph Quinn) picks up the guitar and performs the hit in the episode.
"Master of Puppets" is currently in twelfth place in the US Spotify Top 50 and 15th in the UK. Metallica's eight-minute song is ranked 26th in the streaming service's global top 50. In Germany, "Master of Puppets" has not yet made it into the charts.
Metallica's bassist Robert Trujillo announced via Instagram that his 17-year-old son, Tye, has been collaborating on the new version of the song for the show. "That's my boy! Proud of you, Tye," wrote the musician there.
The final two episodes of the fourth season of "Stranger Things" were released on Netflix on July 1 and immediately set new records. According to reports, at times there was such a high rush that users were temporarily unable to use Netflix.
The tabloid newspaper "The Sun" claims to have learned that due to the hype about the music, a whole musical is even planned. According to the report, the Netflix bosses have already secured the trademark rights in the UK for a "live theatrical, musical or comedic performance" of "Stranger Things". In addition, one has applied for trademark protection for food, beverages and chewing gum. There is no official confirmation from Netflix yet.
