Third album harbinger out: Metallica invite you to album listening sessions

Metallica release new song "If Darkness Had A Son". The third harbinger of their next album, which is to be presented in cinemas when it is released, has it all. The song is about temptation. Something frontman James Hetfield often couldn't resist.

Metallica have released a new preview for their upcoming album 72 Seasons, which is due out on April 14th. "If Darkness Had a Son" is about temptation and trying to resist it for over six minutes. For singer James Hetfield, who has been battling his alcohol addiction for years, this is no stranger to the subject.

The release of the new song had been hinted at beforehand by Metallica with a Tiktok campaign. Bassist Robert Trujillo and drummer Lars Ulrich had already uploaded the song to the platform, but only with the bass and drums audio tracks. So the fans had the chance to bring in their own ideas with guitar or vocals - so to speak in a duet with Metallica.

"If Darkness Had a Son" is the third single from the forthcoming album after "Screaming Suicide" and "Lux Æterna". The record was produced by Greg Fidelman, singer Hetfield and drummer Ulrich.

Before Metallica come to Germany in May, fans have the chance to hear the new album for the first time in a special atmosphere on April 13th. The album will be accompanied by music videos for each song and on-screen commentary by the band members at the "72 Seasons - Global Premiere" listening event, held in cinemas worldwide. Tickets are available here.
