Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann is newly in love - and is now showing it. He takes his new girlfriend Lena Wurzenberger with him to the European Beach Volleyball semi-finals in Munich. Despite public criticism of the relationship: the couple does not want to hide.
Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann has appeared publicly for the first time with his new girlfriend, the "Bild" reporter Lena Wurzenberger. The occasion, of course, was a sporty one: the couple sat in the audience during the women's beach volleyball semifinals at the European Athletics Championships in Munich. Apparently they don't want to hide. When Nagelsmann noticed that the photographers' cameras were not aimed at the field but at him and his companion, he smiled and gave two thumbs up. His 30-year-old girlfriend also seemed relaxed.
That is not entirely natural. After all, there was some fuss about the relationship shortly after it became known. Critics saw a conflict of interest in the fact that Wurzenberger also reported on FC Bayern Munich for her employer. The "Bild" newspaper had therefore released the reporter from reporting on the club with immediate effect.
In May, Wurzenberger had reported on the Bayern coach and had direct talks with him. Their relationship became known in June. Nagelsmann recently countered allegations that he could pass on internal information to the "Bild" newspaper in order to give his girlfriend an advantage in an interview with the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung". "I really understand that this allegation can come, but in what interest should I tell [her] something? I would be the first to be fired," Nagelsmann told the newspaper.
At the beginning of June, Nagelsmann announced the separation from his wife Verena. The couple had been in a relationship for 15 years and have also been married since 2018. The two have two children - a seven-year-old son and a two-year-old daughter.
