Erfurt (dpa/th) - The Thuringian climate pavilion, which is on the Petersberg in Erfurt this year, has attracted around 15,000 visitors so far. About 3,000 of them came to events in the cupola, as the Ministry of the Environment announced at the halfway point on Friday. Environment Minister Anja Siegesmund (Greens) sees a growing need for information in view of the climate crisis that is becoming more and more noticeable.

"Burning forests and fields in large parts of Europe, also in Thuringia, heat waves with record values ​​close to 40 degrees. In these times we have to talk openly with each other, face the problems seriously and understand climate protection and climate adaptation as the top priority of our actions," explained Siegesmund in Erfurt.

In the second half of the season from August 1st, events with the polar researcher Markus Rex on August 26th and the science journalist Harald Lesch on September 7th are planned. The climate pavilion on Erfurt's Petersberg will be open until October 3rd.

The pavilion with information offers and an exhibition has been there since 2017. After starting in Apolda, it changes its location every year. The dome-shaped building has a diameter of 16 meters and a height of ten meters.
