Thuringia: 250 Ukrainians registered as unemployed

Erfurt/Halle (dpa/th) - In Thuringia, 250 Ukrainians were registered as unemployed in May. This means an increase of 60 job seekers compared to April, as the regional directorate of Saxony-Anhalt-Thuringia announced to the Federal Employment Agency on Tuesday. According to the information, around 80 percent of them were women (200), almost 50 percent between the ages of 25 and 45 (120). 67 percent had a high school diploma or higher education entrance qualification (170).

According to the regional directorate, around half of those affected have registered for placement in helper professions, 110 for specialist or expert activities. With increasing support for people in the job centers, the number of unemployed will increase in the coming months, it said.

The 250 women and men registered as unemployed are among the approximately 1,100 people of Ukrainian origin who were registered in Thuringia in mid-May. That was 900 more than in the previous month and almost 1000 more than a year ago. The numbers also include Ukrainians who were registered before the Russian war of aggression. By comparison, before the war began in January, there were around 300 job seekers of Ukrainian descent in Thuringia.
