Erfurt (dpa/th) - In Thuringia, three quarters of women of working age are employed. The employment rate for women aged 15 to 64 was 75.6 percent in 2021, as the State Statistical Office announced on Tuesday in the run-up to International Women's Day on March 8th. Of the working women, 40 percent worked part-time. In 2021, more than a million women lived in Bavaria on average.
In the run-up to Women's Day, politicians drew attention to the continuing unequal treatment of women and men. "And another year has passed and we can say: apart from flowers and clapping, not much has happened," said Karola Stange, spokeswoman for women's affairs in the Left parliamentary group.
Rod criticized that women were often paid less, found themselves increasingly in precarious jobs and were still clearly underrepresented in society, politics and science. In the state parliament, for example, only around 32 percent of the members are female. Left state chairwoman Ulrike Grosse-Röthig demanded that March 8 be made a legal day off for employees - with full wage compensation.
The women's policy spokeswoman for the SPD parliamentary group, Cornelia Klisch, called for better protection against violence. More places in women's shelters are needed that are accessible to all those affected and can be used without barriers. The equality policy spokeswoman for the Greens, Laura Wahl, said that until there is a nationwide regulation, there should be low-barrier places, sufficient and appropriately paid staff and protective facilities in every district on a legal basis in Thuringia. The state must do its part to finance this.
