Nordhausen (dpa/th) - A couple of bikers died in a head-on collision with a car on federal highway 243 in northern Thuringia on Sunday. The motorcycle with a sidecar was hit by the car between Nordhausen and the state border with Lower Saxony near Günzerode, as a police spokesman said on request. The 58-year-old man and the woman of the same age from the Netherlands died at the scene of the accident. According to the information, the car driven by an 83-year-old man ran into the oncoming lane at noon without braking. The driver and his 84-year-old wife in the passenger seat were taken to hospitals with serious injuries. It is not yet clear why the driver swerved into oncoming traffic.
