Thuringia: 91-year-old detonates explosives in a nursing home

Erfurt (dpa/th) - In a nursing home in Erfurt, a 91-year-old resident detonated an explosive in his room. The senior seriously injured his hand in the New Year's Day incident, police said on Monday. He was admitted to a hospital. The furniture in the room was also damaged. It was initially unclear whether the explosive was a New Year's Eve rocket. The type of explosives is unknown, investigations are ongoing, said a police spokeswoman. The 91-year-old is being investigated for property damage and causing an explosive explosion.
