Erfurt (dpa/th) - After an explosive device exploded in a retirement home in Erfurt, a 91-year-old man died of his injuries. A New Year's Eve firecracker was probably responsible for the explosion, the police said on Tuesday. According to earlier police reports, the man had ignited it himself in his room on New Year's Day and was injured.
Indications that strangers should have thrown the firecracker into the man's room were not confirmed by the investigation. The 91-year-old died in hospital on Monday.
