Erfurt (dpa/th) - After the immunity of the CDU parliamentary group leader Mario Voigt was lifted, the public prosecutor's office still does not comment on the reasons for their application to the state parliament. A spokesman for the Erfurt public prosecutor's office said on Monday that she would only explain herself when the decision of the judiciary committee to lift the immunity was available. That has not yet happened.
The reasons why the public prosecutor wants to investigate Voigt are still not public. For investigations in the event of initial suspicion against members of parliament, an application for the waiver of immunity must first be submitted.
Since last Friday, when the Judiciary Committee lifted his immunity, Voigt has repeatedly stated that he himself does not know the reasons in detail. He suspects it could be related to his sideline activities. He is not aware of any guilt, said the 45-year-old, who was elected the new Thuringian CDU chairman at a party conference in Pößneck last Saturday.
Voigt has meanwhile put a statement on his website in which he lists his sideline activities and published the annual financial statements of Mario Voigt Consulting UG for the period 2016 to 2019. In addition to the consulting firm for digital communication that he runs in Jena, Voigt is a professor at a university in Berlin. He is also said to have been involved in digital campaign projects.
