Erfurt/Bad Langensalza (dpa/th) - After a prisoner attempted to escape from Gräfentonna prison (Gotha district), the Ministry of Justice is examining possible consequences. "It is now being worked out how this could have happened," said the spokesman for the Ministry of Justice, Oliver Will, on Thursday morning at the request of the German Press Agency. Investigations should show whether the prisoner can be prosecuted. In addition, it will be checked whether there are indications that police procedures need to be changed.
The 31-year-old prisoner fled on Wednesday despite being accompanied and tied up during a doctor's visit. Around midnight he was taken into custody in Bad Langensalza (Unstrut-Hainich district) after hours of searching. The prisoner is in jail for extortion.
