Thuringia: After cancellation in Erfurt: Wasungen holds on to the carnival parade

Wasungen (dpa/th) - Thuringia's carnival stronghold Wasungen, unlike the state capital Erfurt, wants to hold on to its traditional carnival parade despite cost increases. However, the higher costs, among other things for the safety precautions, are also difficult to manage in Wasungen, said the President of the Wasunger Carneval Club (WCC), Marco Kissling, on Tuesday on request. The funds for this accounted for about half of the calculated total costs for the move on February 18th. In Erfurt, the big fool's troop planned for February 19 was canceled on Monday by the organizers due to lack of money.

"That's a shame," said Kissling. As in Erfurt, the move to Wasungen was canceled two years in a row during the corona pandemic. This year he experiences his resurrection. Around 2,000 active people are expected to take part in the parade under the motto "Mie could's ümmer nooch" ("We can still do it"), and around 100 pictures are planned. This is comparable to the pre-corona level.

It is financed, among other things, from the sale of tickets, which are also valid for the evening events. The city usually participates with contributions in kind, according to the WCC President. For example, they take care of the garbage disposal. The carnival in Wasungen has a 487-year tradition - and thus one of the longest in Germany.
