Erfurt (dpa/th) - As in the previous year, more edible fish were produced in so-called aquaculture in Thuringia last year. 54 companies would have produced a total of 886 tons of edible fish in 2021, which was 78 tons more than in the previous year, as the State Statistics Office announced on Thursday.

According to the statisticians, the largest share of production was made up of rainbow trout, of which 540 tons were produced. That was 34 tons or 7 percent more than in 2020. The share of rainbow trout in the total fish production in Thuringia was 61 percent.

In addition, 111 tons of salmon trout were caught, which was 50 tons or 80 percent more than in the previous year. Brown trout production increased by 15 percent from 14 tons in 2020 to 16 tons in 2021.

According to this report, the production of carp, which accounted for 20 percent of the total fish production in Thuringia, fell again. In 2021, 181 tons were fished, 4 tons or 2 percent less than in the previous year. At 3 tons, the production of tench was at the previous year's level.
