Thuringia: Almost 1200 crimes in 2021 against police officers in Thuringia

Erfurt (dpa/th) - Last year, almost 1,200 crimes against police officers were registered in Thuringia. That was over 120 more than in 2020, the Ministry of the Interior said on Saturday in Erfurt. "In the area of dangerous and serious bodily harm, we even have a doubling," said Interior Minister Georg Maier (SPD). He did not give exact numbers.

According to this information, there were 722 cases of resistance against police officers in 2021 (2020: 691). Police officers were physically attacked in 311 cases (2020: 227). These crimes were mainly committed at demonstrations against corona measures. "This shows how aggressive the mood is in a certain part of the population. These are the people who are rebelling against necessary government measures and are not afraid to seriously injure police officers," says Maier.

"We know that right-wing rebels heat up the mood at such demonstrations and also plan targeted attacks against the state power," Maier continued. These are not "concerned citizens" who would strike there, but right-wing violent criminals.
