Thuringia: Architecture Prize for Geraue and Kirchenburg

Erfurt (dpa/th) - This year's architecture prize was awarded for the design of the northern Geraaue in Erfurt and for the rebuilt fortified church in Walldorf in southern Thuringia. Since 2005, the Thuringian Chamber of Architects has honored exemplary projects with this award.

The landscape architects of the Berlin office geskes.hack answered the current task of sustainable urban development in an exemplary manner with the Geraaue, the chamber announced on Thursday. The freelance Meiningen architect Karsten Merkel and the Weimar office of Osterwold-Schmidt rethought the interior of the fortified church in a playful and slightly conceptual way.

A jury not only chose the two prizewinners, but also awarded three prizes. These were selected from the 158 objects participating in the "Day of Architecture" in the Free State from the years 2020, 2021 and 2022.
