Thuringia: Around 3500 people at the CSD in Erfurt

Erfurt (dpa/th) - According to the police, around 3,500 demonstrators took to the streets at Christopher Street Day (CSD) on Saturday in Erfurt for the rights of queer people. With rainbow flags and posters, the colorful demonstration march through the city center promoted acceptance and equality and, according to the organizers, turned against the discrimination that still existed.

Non-heterosexual people or those who do not identify with the traditional role model of men and women or other social norms relating to gender and sexuality describe themselves as queer.

The CSD is celebrated worldwide and is intended to remind of the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer people. The movement dates back to an event in late June 1969. At that time, police officers in New York stormed the "Stonewall Inn" bar on Christopher Street and triggered a revolt by gays, lesbians and transsexuals against the despotism.
